10 Mobile DJ Halloween Floorfillers
Mastermix Label Manager Richard Lee lists his top ten Halloween floorfillers!
- Thriller – Michael Jackson
This 1983 classic from MJ has stood the test of time and fended off all that
has tried to topple it from its position as the ultimate mobile DJ Halloween
anthem. That intro, that bassline, that chorus, that rap, that ending…pure pop perfection!
- Somebody’s Watching Me – Rockwell
One-hit wonder…but what a hit! The track reached number 6 in the UK in 1984 and featured both Michael & Jermaine Jackson on backing vocals. In 2006, Dutch act Beatfreakz released a dance version that sampled the chorus and became a DJ favourite…but it’s the 80s original for me all the way!
- Monster – The Automatic
In 2006, Welsh Rock band The Automatic stormed the charts with this track that remains a DJ favourite at Halloween and beyond! I’m not sure what’s scarier…the song…or the fact that I always thought they were American!
- Ghostbusters – Ray Parker Jr
Is this the best Halloween-themed track of all time? It certainly gives all other contenders a serious run for their money! This iconic track reached number 2 in the UK in 1984 and was the theme tune to the hit movie of the same name. Brilliant film, excellent music video, awesome song!
- Highway To Hell – AC/DC
Rock music is perfect for a Halloween-themed event and it’s this classic anthem from Aussie rockers AC/DC that makes the list. From the opening few bars to the very last note, this is a classic in every sense and a huge favourite among DJs and audiences alike.
- Monster Mash – Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers
Recorded in 1962 it wasn’t until 1973 when this track became a hit in the UK but since then it has become a perennial favourite at Halloween.
- Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) – Backstreet Boys
It’s the iconic video that ensures this track always gets played at a Halloween-themed event thanks to the various horror costumes donned by the band including a Werewolf, a Mummy & Dracula. The song is a 90s classic and a DJ favourite at Halloween.
- Sympathy For The Devil – Rolling Stones
With its devilish undertones this 1968 track from the bad boys of pop takes
its place in our list. The track was placed at number 32 on Rolling Stone
magazine’s ‘500 Greatest songs Of All Time’.
- The Time Warp – Rocky Horror Movie Show OST
There can’t be many, if any, Halloween parties when this track isn’t given an airing? Taken from the cult movie by Richard O’Brien it is guaranteed to have guests of all ages flinging their arms about, thrusting their pelvis and jumping in all directions, but mainly to the left…
- Nightmare (Mastermix Horror Remix) – Brainbug
I remember this production well as I had to sit in a studio, on my own, late at night, editing the various Horror movie samples that were later added to this classic dance track to create this brilliant Halloween remix that is as
frightening now as it was when it was first produced. An excellent DJ utility…just don’t have nightmares!!!
There were a number of tracks that came close to making the Top 10 but just missed out…so honorary mentions to:
- Ghost Town – Specials
- Meat Loaf – Bat Out Of Hell
- Psycho Killer – Talking Heads
- People Are Strange – Doors
- Bad Moon Rising – Creedance Clearwater Revival
- Amityville (House On The Hill) – Lovebug Starski
Where possible I’ve linked to the DJ Beats versions of tracks in this post, which are the radio edits with added intro and outro beats to make live mixing creative, seamless and fun!
