Top Ten Mixes To Play At A Wedding

Wedding DJ Specialist and National Wedding DJ of the Year 2019, Alan Marshall, details his top ten selection of mixes to play at a Wedding.

“Over the last six days, I performed at three weddings”. Let me say that again…”Over the last six days, I performed at three weddings”. Please understand it’s not to boast, but after fourteen months of that not being a reality, I need to say it aloud a couple of times, so I believe it!

Three weddings all very different with their complexities but connected by one thing: Either no dancing apart from the Bride and Bridegroom or little dancing outside due to the current COVID restrictions. Admittedly, not the rammed crazy dance floors that many of my DJ colleagues and I yearn to return to!

This means music programming was key, luckily my friends at Mastermix had my back again with their pre-mixed collections that I have mentioned in the past. Now I know that some may say I should mix live myself, and I agree that is the ideal, but sometimes your attention is needed elsewhere as a host/master of ceremonies during a wedding, or it’s just not practical.

Top Ten Wedding DJ Mixes

Below are my Top Ten pre-mixed mixes from Mastermix that I have ranked in usefulness as a wedding DJ, based on my experience in 2021 over the last few years.

1 & 2: Grandmaster Love 1 & 2

Two extended mixes featuring a mix of classic love songs works perfectly for background during the drinks reception or wedding breakfast. These mixes just set the right tone and create an emotion all about “Love”.

3: Grandmaster Warm Up 8: Balearic Beats

This recent mix by Gary Gee Gelder and Doctor Feelgood worked perfectly for my couple yesterday, creating a very cool eclectic vibe.

4: The Garden Party – Issue 419

A perfect blend for any drinks reception or afternoon outside set, that just has a feel-good factor in its DNA plus frankly, any mix of that includes the awesome Jericho by Simply Red already has my vote.

7 & 8: Grandmaster Swing 1 and 2

When I am looking for something that lends an air of sophistication, these work perfectly to set a classy vibe to the wedding breakfast. After all, nothing says cool better than Frank and the Rat Pack and the hits from the swing era, full of songs that will have the guests tapping their toes.

Grandmaster Swing 1 & 2 aren’t available on the website, however take a look at Grandmaster Swing Party as an alternative.

9: Music For Food: Motown – Issue 392

Motown has been a favourite at weddings for years, and this mix strikes the perfect chord to put smiles on faces and build anticipation for the evening party.

10: Music For Food pt.8 – Smooth Grooves

This mix does what it says in the title with hits from Hi-Gloss you’ll never know to Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. It works for a smooth but up-tempo wedding breakfast or late night slow jams wind down.
