Forgotten 90s DJ Playlists

Forgotten 90s DJ Playlists

The 90s has seen a new level of popularity and with it an increased demand for Mastermix to offer even more music from that decade. We have already created a range of 90s albums including The 100 Collection: 90s & accompanying Top Up album so we decided to create something unique to complement them in the shape of Essential Hits: Forgotten 90s.

The word ‘forgotten’ may imply that they are forgotten because they aren’t playable anymore, but that really couldn’t be further from the truth. Some artists have numerous hits or one huge hit, meaning their other releases get ‘forgotten’ and that’s where Mastermix come in.

Artists including Kylie, Bon Jovi, Madonna & Blur have all enjoyed huge amounts of hits but aside from the obvious tracks you always seem to play, there are other options available to you that will get the desired reaction from your audiences:

  • Kylie Minogue – Shocked
  • Bon Jovi – In These Arms
  • Madonna – Justify My Love
  • Blur – The Universal

The 90s was an eclectic decade with tracks including:

  • Goo Goo Dolls – Iris
  • LL Cool J – Mama Said Knock You Out
  • Betty Boo – Where Are You Baby
  • Lightning Seeds – Marvellous

All big tracks but often overlooked when playing 90s music. Whether it’s a 90s theme night or you are playing a few 90s as part of a DJ set at one of your events, by adding a forgotten hit you can showcase your music knowledge and take your audiences on a musical journey. Adding a few one-hit wonders to a 90s set is something to consider:

  • Ann Lee – 2 Times
  • Guru Josh – Infinity
  • Sugar Ray – Every Morning
  • Gun – Word Up

or some forgotten party hits:

  • Suggs – Cecelia
  • Cyndi Lauper – Hey Now (Girls Just Want To Have Fun)
  • Right Said Fred – Don’t Talk Just Kiss
  • Janet Jackson – Whoops Now

and the 90s gave us some amazing Indie / Rock anthems:

Oasis – Cigarettes & Alcohol
Suede – The Wild Ones
James – Ring The Bells
Pearl Jam – Daughter
Monaco – What Do You Want From Me

The 90s gave us some eclectic music styles that in turn delivered some wonderful songs. Whilst the obvious hits will always be popular, it’s our job as a DJ to offer our clients alternatives to help them create unique music solutions for their guests which can lead to some interesting results on the dancefloor.

Mastermix have created Essential Hits Forgotten 90s that has all you need to create an innovative 90s DJ set. The collection has a unique DJ-friendly formula that includes 40 huge tracks that are complemented by 10 Transition tracks giving you 50 massive anthems to add to your DJ music library.

Richard Lee – Professional DJ & Mastermix Label Manager

“If I’m playing a 90s themed event then I really like to dig through my music library and play a few forgotten classics. They always evoke a reaction and can be mixed in with other 90s hits to offer something unique rather than playing the same music as other DJs. Whilst seamless mixing is favoured by many DJs, sometimes you need to play a wide range of styles and just let your audiences soak up the nostalgia”
